Over the past 20 years, the number of female CEOs at Fortune 500 companies has increased by nearly 14-fold. Sounds good until you realize in 2021 that represents only 8 percent of CEOs at Fortune 500 companies. Improvement but far from the more than 50 percent of the population and the workforce who identify as female.
Gender equity is a subject we've tracked for many years. Purpose-driven organizations have sought to act and be seen as leaders in this area, not always successfully. A common weakness has been focusing on the increase in numbers of women served or women within your workplace, without providing context for evaluating the statistics.
Continuing this pattern, the full chart from Statista illustrates the growth in raw numbers well — but the gap remaining to achieve parity is not illustrated.
