Patricia C. Heffernan

Pat HeffernanPat – marketing strategist, writer, and co-founder of Marketing Partners – serves as president and creative director for our client team.

Much to her chagrin, she has enough years of diverse communications experience now to be routinely introduced as a marketing legend. Pat’s love of language and advocacy was in evidence throughout her high school, college, and grad school years, so it surprised few when she chose to make Vermont her home after summering here since she was a child. Despite the rumors, Pat claims it is untrue she never sleeps. She credits an abundance of energy, which enables her to work hard and play hard year round, for generating this myth. In addition to championing our clients and our team, Pat is as an insatiable tracker of media and markets, active volunteer board member, and dedicated cook, while simultaneously delighting in the outdoors as a winter trekker, kayaker and long-distance cyclist (as in 100-mile bike rides). The no-sleep rumors persist…

For those interested in the more formal credential stuff... Prior to establishing her own business in 1982, Pat served for nine years as Associate Dean at Vermont Law School. During that time, the school’s nationally recognized Environmental Law Center was conceived and established. Pat has developed marketing and media plans and award-winning communications materials for public information campaigns and for corporate image, sales, and product promotion programs. She hopes someday to complete her Ph.D. in communication and social change theory, and holds an MBA and a BA. Pat has earned the designation of Certified Management Consultant (CMC), and was honored to receive VBSR's prestigious Terry Ehrich Award for Excellence in Socially Responsible Business Practices.

Pat has had years of strategic planning experience for organizations in the private and public sectors, managed non-existent to multi-million-dollar budgets, and has spoken extensively on management and policy issues throughout the U.S. She has taught “Sustainable Business Strategies” at the University of Vermont, served as an expert witness in federal court, and testified on legislation at both the federal and state level.

Pat serves actively on a number of community and state boards and commissions. Her current and recent affiliations include: a founder and first president of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility; founder and president of Women Business Owners Network of Vermont & New Hampshire; long-time member of the Governor's Commission on Women; and member of the S.B.A. Region I Advisory Council. Pat was recognized by the S.B.A. as Vermont’s Women in Business Advocate, and has served on the Vermont Economic Progress Council, on two delegations to the White House Conference on Small Business, as a national board member of the Institute for Management Consultants, and currently serves as a member of the UVM Advisory Board for the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences.
